The world is changing right before our eyes, but some people refuse to see it. There are a lot of people out there that would sooner say bah-humbug about global warming than actually get into the facts involved. The debates can rage and the discussions can mount, but the truth is, there isn’t anything to discuss anymore. Global warming is here, it's made by humans, and the world's governments need to do their part to curtail it.
Here is one of the first clues that support human-made global warming. Our current Presidential administration believes it to be so. Before everyone scoffs at that statement understand one thing: President Obama is being advised by some of the greatest scientific minds of our time, including environmentalists Steven Chu, John Holdren and Jane Lubchenco. They have laid out facts and figures that global warming is real, and their collective knowledge backed up with research, is pretty hard to dispute.
The second clue is based on hard core statistics. These statistics will literally blow away anyone who says this is a natural fluctuation or whatever else anyone cares to blame it on in the earth’s atmosphere. These are the facts as are known.
Eighty-seven percent of the total greenhouse gas emissions occurred during the industrial revolution. This period of time started around 1750 and continues on to the present day. But here is the killer. A full 37 percent of that increase came within the last 10 years!
Scientists even understand why. In the past 10 years, other countries began stretching their own industrial muscles. China is essentially going through their own industrial revolution and they have ramped up their heavy industries, burning mega tons of fossil fuels, all the while saturating the air with pollutants. This isn’t some witches brew of facts and figures; this is absolute fact. And the fact of that matter is, there is no known natural earth fluctuation in any possible scenario that could have caused this increase in greenhouse emissions. It was all made by humans.
The principle greenhouse gasses are composed of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated types of gas. Carbon dioxide is the most common and talked about, but the gasses in the fluorinated group are the most evil. Fluorinated type gasses are the ones that eat away our ozone layer, which allows unfiltered sunlight to come streaming through the atmosphere. The radiation from every ray of sun adds an incredible amount of heat to the planet, and carbon dioxide traps that heat like a blanket.
This condition feeds on itself, because once the earth has been heated up in this way, the air can now hold more water vapor, which, believe it or not, is classified as another type of greenhouse gas. Water vapor adds humidity and that works like a thermal blanket to trap in even more heat, and this cycle propagates itself. This means that no matter what seasonal temperature fluctuations may be, average mean temperatures are continuing to rise regardless.
These basics bear out the fact of global warming, and there is nothing natural about it in any sense of the word. And unless you care to take on the best and most respected scientific minds in the business, there isn’t even room for a good discussion. To that end, attacking the problem instead of waiting for it to consume the entire human race, seems a bit better to me, which is exactly how the Presidential administration feels, and Because Action speaks louder than words, it’s time to take some steps to combat global warming for life.
